Dry mouth can be a result of nerve damage to the head and neck area from an injury or surgery. Conditions that lead to dehydration, such as fever, excessive sweating, vomiting, diarrhea, blood loss, and burns can cause dry mouth.

Dry MouthRemedies:

1.) Chew on sugar free gum or suck on hard, sugar free candy to stimulate the salivary glands to produce saliva

2.) Drink plenty of water and sugarless drinks. Avoid drinks that contain caffeine, such as coffee, which can dry out the mouth.

3.) Avoid salty and spicy food as they can irritate the mouth

4.) Veer away from alcohol and tobacco

5.) Make use of a humidifier or room moisturizer at night to moisturize the air in the room

6.) To help you lubricate your mouth, consult your dentist for artificial saliva substitutes.

7.) If one has a habit of breathing by mouth, he should stop it as it can cause dry mouth.

8.) One of the efficient dry mouth remedy is over the counter saliva spray which can also be used to increase the saliva.

  1. I used to experience dry mouth. I tried a lot of treatments without consulting professional help. Then after a month of it, I decided to search for dentists (Greenville, SC) to get rid of such inconvenience! Good thing I found one dentist in Greenville, and got my teeth diagnosed. He guessed it's because of the high intake of sugar. He did cleaning of my teeth for added treatment. Since then, I learned to drink tons of water.
