1. Place a dry tea bag between your tooth and cheek to reduce pain and swelling.

2. Eat garlic. Garlic is a strong antibacterial. You may need to eat a lot, which can give body odor, but people swear by it.

3. Applying an ice pack over the cheek on the side of the affected area will help reduce the swelling. Apply it for 20 minutes several times a day.

4. Using clove oil as an anesthetic is the best tooth abscess home remedy. You can also continuously chew on a clove instead. This might cause hyper acidity, so don't swallow too much of the residue when you are empty stomach.

5. A piece of raw potato placed between the tooth and cheek is also said to reduce pain and swelling.

6. Dip a wet cotton ball in a mixture of 1 teaspoon of table salt with 1 teaspoon of baking soda, then place between the tooth and cheek.

7. Mix as much table salt as will dissolve in a glass of lukewarm water and hold and swish in your mouth for at least five minutes once an hour until swelling and pain diminish.

8. Tea tree oil is an excellent anti bacterial agent. It is the most medicinal of all the essential oils. Add 5 drops of tea tree to a glass of water and gargle at least 5 times a day.

Gum disease describes swelling, soreness or infection of the tissues supporting the teeth. There are two main forms of gum disease: gingivitis and periodontal disease. Gum disease is inflammation of the gums (gingivae) and damage to the bone that anchors teeth in the jaws. Gum disease is very common, affecting more than half of adults with natural teeth.

Gingivitis is mild gum disease that affects only the gums, the tissue that surrounds the teeth. Periodontitis is gum disease that gets worse and spreads below the gums to damage the tissues and bone that support the teeth.

Causes of Gum Disease:

All gum disease is caused by plaque. Plaque is a film of bacteria which forms on the surface of the teeth and gums every day. Many of the bacteria in plaque are completely harmless, but there are some that have been shown to be the main cause of gum disease.

* Gums that are red, puffy or swollen, or tender.

* Gums that bleed during brushing or flossing.

* Teeth that look longer because your gums have receded.

* Prepare an antibacterial mouthwash by 3% hydrogen peroxide solution with half a glass of water. Use this to rinse your mouth twice daily as a periodontal gum disease cure.

* Just 15ml of drakshadi decotion with 60ml of luke warm water twice a day before a meal will arrest gum bleeding.

* Reduce sugar intake. This includes both snacks and drinks that are high in sugar. If you do consume foods that contain sugar, ideally, brush your teeth right away.

* A mouthwash made from a combination of chamomile, echinacea and myrrh has been successfully used for treating gingivitis.

* A couple of drops of olive leaf extract or tea tree oil on your toothbrush can arrest infection and kill the bacteria in the mouth.

* Aloe vera can be applied directly to inflamed gums and used to soothe the tissues in the mouth.

Eat more saliva creating foods such as apples, sugar cane, guavas, cucumbers, celery, etc. The effect of this food would not only be on the teeth but also on your digestive system since these would give you the much needed fiber that aids digestion.

3. Mix baking soda with enough hydrogen peroxide to make a toothpaste like consistency, says Dr. Levin, then brush stains away. Be sure not to use too much peroxide, as it can cause burning.

4. After every meal, rinse the food from your teeth, says Dr. Maitland. If you can't get to a restroom, pick up your water glass, take a swig, then rinse and swallow at the table.

5. Mouthwashes that have an antibacterial action will reduce stain catching plaque, says Dr. Featherstone.

6. Rubbing the bark of walnut tree will also help to remove teeth stains.

7. Rub teeth with the inner white part of an orange peel for a lovely white shine.
