Foot pain is very common most people experience some type of foot pain during their lifetime. Pain can occur anywhere in the foot, including the toes, the ball of the foot, the arch, the instep, the sole, the heel, and the ankle. The incidence of foot pain increases with age.
Foot pain is one of the most common forms of chronic pain. With causes ranging from fallen arches and calluses to ingrown nails and broken bones, foot pain comes in many forms. Find out what might be causing your foot pain, and what you can do about it.
Foot Pain Causes:
Most foot pain is due to poorly fitting shoes, injury or overuse. But structural defects and medical conditions, such as arthritis and diabetes, also can lead to foot problems. Common causes of foot pain include:
* Broken toe
* High heels or poorly fitting shoes
* Poor posture or postural defects
* Stress fractures
* Tarsal tunnel syndrome
* Broken ankle/broken foot
Foot Pain Symptoms:
Foot pain can take any number of forms depending on the condition involved. Some common forms include continuous muscle pain accompanied by cramping, soreness, swelling and muscle spasms, and enduring joint pain. Weakness, numbness and tingling may also be evident. If the pain last longer than six months it is defined as chronic, and may be accompanied by sleeping difficulties, lack of energy and depression.
Foot Pain Remedy:
* Experts recommend warm water treatment as one of the most effective treatment to cure foot pain caused due to fatigue. You can soak your feet in a bucket of warm water for about 15 minutes. The warm water can sooth and relax your leg muscles, thereby treating foot pain.
* It is suggested that hot treatment can promote blood flow thereby causing muscle relaxation, while cold treatment can reduce inflammation. You can apply a heat pad and an ice pack alternately each for 10-15 minutes to reduce foot pain.
* Trim your toe nails regularly to avoid ingrowths. Make sure you remove the sharp edges and trim nails from one corner to the other.
* Alternate shoes. Don't wear the same pair of shoes every day.
* Wash feet regularly, especially between the toes, and be sure to dry them completely.
* Avoid walking barefoot, which increases the risk for injury and infection.
* Select and wear the right shoe for specific activities (i.e., running shoes for running).
* It is recommended that mustard seeds can improve blood circulation and break down toxins in muscles and joints, thereby treating foot pain. You can add some mustard seeds in a hot tub or foot tub. Soak your feet in it for 15 minutes and pat dry.
* Be cautious when using home remedies for foot ailments; self treatment can often turn a minor problem into a major one.
